Where the wild never sleeps — and the greatest wildlife spectacle on Earth plays out across a golden, endless horizon.
Introduction to the Serengeti
Some destinations redefine your soul. Serengeti National Park stands as a premier jewel, spanning 15,000 square kilometers of Tanzanian soil. This sanctuary serves as a vibrant heart for wild Africa—a sprawling theater of sun-drenched savannas, granite outcrops, and lush woods that have endured for ages. Yet, the legendary Great Migration defines this realm. Each season, nearly two million beasts brave a perilous circuit toward the Maasai Mara, chasing life-giving storms. This epic trek remains the globe’s premier wildlife event, offering a profound journey that lingers in your mind.
Navigating the Heart of East Africa
Ever wondered where this eden lies? Nestled in northern Tanzania, the Serengeti spans a vast frontier northwest of Ngorongoro. It shares a border with the Maasai Mara in Kenya, creating a vital corridor for roaming herds. Arusha remains the essential gateway, located 325 km east, acting as the launchpad for your safari adventure. To reach this wilderness, travelers usually arrive via Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Dar es Salaam. From these hubs, a short hopper flight to a bush airstrip or a scenic drive through the crater highlands will deliver you to the very center of the action in no time at all.
Whether you desire a rugged budget camp or an elite luxury lodge, our custom trips suit every taste. Every expedition is expertly led, ensuring all permits and transit needs are handled for a seamless adventure.
Every sunrise brings a new story. From the quiet morning mist to the intense drama of big cats on the prowl, you will witness the raw, authentic pulse of the African wild in real time.
The Serengeti holds a massive concentration of mammals. Lions, leopards, and elephants share this vast landscape with millions of migratory animals across the plains.
From the Central Seronera plains to rocky Lobo kopjes and the green Western Corridor, the Serengeti’s diversity surprises even veterans. Nature’s variety at its peak.
Serengeti sunsets are legendary. The flat horizon lets colour spread across the sky—deep amber, soft rose, then the absolute darkness of an unpolluted African night.
Host to the legendary Big Five and a myriad of exotic creatures, these plains provide the most dense and diverse animal encounters found throughout the entire continent.

The park offers magic throughout the calendar—yet understanding seasonal shifts is the key to an epic adventure. To help you plan, we have created this definitive monthly breakdown for your perfect African wildlife tour.
The Southern Serengeti Erupts with Life
Visiting during January and February offers a truly breathtaking glimpse into the circle of life. Around half a million young calves emerge upon the southern short-grass savannas within a month—a staggering natural phenomenon. This bounty triggers intense predator sightings; lions, cheetahs, and hyenas frequently hunt across the emerald landscape. With the scenery so vibrant and crowds much thinner, travelers enjoy better value and intimacy than during the mid-year rush. For those seeking a visceral, high-action journey through the wild, this specific period is simply unbeatable.
The Mara River Crossings — Nature's Greatest Drama
July through September is peak safari season for a reason. The Great Migration herds arrive in the northern Serengeti and begin their legendary attempts to cross the crocodile-filled Mara River. These crossings — wildebeest plunging in their thousands into the churning water — are one of the most dramatic wildlife spectacles on Earth. The dry season ensures excellent visibility, water sources bring animals together, and lion, leopard, and cheetah sightings are exceptional throughout the park. Book accommodation well in advance — this is the most in-demand safari season anywhere in Africa.
Dramatic Landscapes, Fewer Crowds, Lower Rates
The months of March through May herald the rainy period—a lush transformation for the plains. The terrain turns a brilliant emerald, waterways swell, and the avian world becomes a riot of color. While some remote camps pause operations and roads grow muddy, the park remains alive with resident game. Spotting animals may take extra time, yet the rewards are immense. This window is ideal for savvy travelers on a budget, artists seeking moody lighting and vibrant backdrops, or anyone wanting a private, quiet encounter within these famous Tanzanian boundaries
The Herds Return South — and the Plains Come Alive
Late year visits are hidden treasures. These months feature quick afternoon storms that vanish as fast as they arrive, leaving the horizon crisp and glowing. The wandering herds start their trek back to the southern reaches, and by the end of the year, the first signs of new life appear. Foot traffic remains light compared to the winter peak, prices are better, and animal tracking is truly top-tier. December—especially toward the holidays—stands out as a magical time to explore, offering a vibrant atmosphere where you can feel the natural cycle starting over amidst one of the world’s most stunning backdrops.
A trip here transcends simple animal spotting; it is a profound journey into one of the final authentic frontiers on our planet.
The best time to spot predators and herds on the move. Your guide will navigate the plains at first light, when the bush is alive and activity peaks.
Drift silently over the golden plains at dawn. From above, the scale of the Serengeti becomes breathtaking — a perspective you'll never forget.
As the sun drops below the horizon, settle in for a sundowner in the wild — a cold drink, a warm fire, and a sky full of stars.
Travel to Serengeti
Most global voyagers arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha, or landing at Julius Nyerere International (DAR) in the coastal city of Dar es Salaam.
Local flights run from Arusha to various strips like Seronera or Kogatende. This saves time while granting amazing views.
The drive from Arusha takes 7–8 hours, crossing the Ngorongoro region. Most tour guides include this drive in longer trips to ensure you see the most scenery while traveling through the highlands.
Jackline RodneyVerified Green season experience Our 8-day safari with **Safari Peak** was truly an unforgettable adventure. From the very first day, we knew we were in good hands with our amazing guide, Mr. Linus, whose experience, knowledge, and warm personality made the journey even more special. We explored some of Tanzania’s most iconic destinations, starting with **Ndutu**. The landscape was beautifully green from the rains, and although the weather was wet, it brought the plains to life. We witnessed herds of wildebeest and zebras grazing across the open fields, lions resting under acacia trees, and dramatic skies that made every moment feel magical. The rain added a sense of adventure — muddy roads, fresh air, and fewer vehicles around us. Our journey continued to the breathtaking **Ngorongoro Crater**, a place unlike any other. Descending into the crater felt like entering a natural paradise. Despite the mist and light rain, we saw an incredible variety of wildlife — elephants, hippos, buffalo, and even a rhino in the distance. Mr. Linus shared fascinating stories and facts about the ecosystem, making every sighting more meaningful. In **Serengeti National Park**, the endless plains stretched beyond the horizon. Even with the rain showers, the experience was extraordinary. We saw giraffes walking gracefully against dramatic storm clouds, cheetahs scanning the plains, and lions moving through the tall grass. The rain sometimes made the roads challenging, but it never stopped our adventure. Instead, it made the safari feel real and wild — exactly what we had hoped for. Traveling during the rainy season turned out to be a blessing. The scenery was lush and vibrant, the wildlife was active, and the parks felt peaceful without large crowds. There were moments of laughter as we navigated muddy tracks, and moments of awe as the sun broke through the clouds to create stunning sunsets. Thanks to Safari Peak and our wonderful guide Mr. Linus, we completed our 8-day safari full of unforgettable memories. Rain or shine — we did it, and it was absolutely worth it. Wiston IVerified 7 kilimanjaro trekking adventures ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing 7-Day Mount Kilimanjaro Climb with Safari Peak I recently completed a 7-day climb of Mount Kilimanjaro with Safari Peak, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, everything was perfectly organized. The team welcomed us warmly and provided a detailed briefing before the climb. The guides were professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive throughout the entire trek. They monitored our health daily, encouraged proper acclimatization, and always made safety the top priority. The 7-day itinerary was well planned and allowed enough time to adjust to the altitude. Each day brought different landscapes — from lush rainforest to rocky alpine desert. The camp setup was comfortable, the tents were good quality, and the food exceeded expectations for a mountain climb. The cooks did an amazing job keeping us well fed and energized. Summit night was the most challenging part, but with the motivation and encouragement from the guides, we successfully reached Uhuru Peak. Watching the sunrise from the roof of Africa was emotional and absolutely worth the effort. What stood out most was the teamwork and positive attitude of the entire crew — guides, porters, and cooks. They truly cared about our success and comfort. I highly recommend Safari Peak to anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro. Their professionalism, organization, and hospitality made this adventure safe, smooth, and memorable. It was not just a climb — it was a life-changing achievement. Jackie FVerified Unbelievable Safari Experience We wanted to experience all that Tanzania had to offer in a wildlife safari and Zanzabar experience. We wanted to find a local company and settled on Safari Peak, and are so glad we did. Richard was so helpful and knowledgeable in working through the details of our dream trip. The trip was beyond our expectations and we can’t imagine a better experience. Our expert guide, Linus, was the best, leading us to wildlife sighting beyond our expectations, with “Wow” moments everyday. Richard, accompanied us to make sure that all aspects of our trip were perfect. Every accommodation, including our 4 night stay in Zanzabar, were fantastic. Our only regret was ending our trip. It felt like leaving family. Thank you Safari Peak. We feel so lucky to have shared this “once in a lifetime” experience. Ludwig FVerified Unvergessliche 3-tägige Safari in Tansania – einfach perfekt! Resort24765278715Verified Wonderful 7 day Kilimanjaro Trek and 6 day Serengeti Safari with local company. Safari Peak organised a 2 week holiday for my son and I in July. This included transport to/from Nairobi and Arusha; hotel in Arusha, the 7 day Machame camping trek route up Kilimanjaro and a 6 day jeep safari across the Serengeti up to the north for the wildebeest migration. Safari Peak is a local company based in Arusha. They were pro-active and responsive in organising everything. They put together a great team of 13 for the trek: The guides were really helpful, the food for breakfast, lunch and dinner was pretty good for camping around 4000m (we always had too much!) and there was plenty of water. It was an amazing experience overall. For the safari, the accommodation choices were excellent including 3 nights in luxury tented camps in the Serengeti – definitely a recommendation to either wake up watching animals graze, and/or to listen to all the different animals around the tent at night. We saw all the animals the Serengeti is famous for, and a lot of these close up to the vehicle, but my favourite experience was driving off the main tracks, away from other vehicles and just parking up and listening to all the birds and noises, and if your patient the animals too. There was a few moments with the Safari Peak team which made our time in Tanzania feel very special and unique, and we got to feel the warmth of the people who live there. Safari Peak made us feel very welcome in Tanzania and left us with a lifelong impression of the people and country. Overall, I would strongly recommend Safari Peak. Neeter YVerified The Majestic Kilimanjaro **Unforgettable 8-Day Lemosho Route Trek with Safari Peak & Guide Sistus** I just returned from the incredible 8-day Lemosho Route trek to Mount Kilimanjaro, and I am beyond thrilled with my experience, thanks to Safari Peak and our amazing guide, Sistus. From start to finish, this trip exceeded all expectations, and I couldn't have asked for a better team to support me along the way. Sistus was the highlight of the entire trek. He is an exceptional guide—knowledgeable, experienced, and incredibly supportive. His expertise on the mountain and its terrain was evident, but what stood out the most was his calm and encouraging presence. He took the time to ensure that everyone in our group was comfortable, well-informed, and properly acclimatized, offering guidance at every step. His sense of humor and positive energy were a huge morale booster, especially on the more challenging days. The Lemosho Route itself was breathtaking, with every day bringing a new, stunning landscape—dense forests, open savannahs, and the dramatic alpine desert as we neared the summit. The 8-day itinerary gave us the perfect balance of time for acclimatization, which helped avoid altitude sickness and made the whole experience much more enjoyable. The team from Safari Peak did an amazing job with logistics. Our porters were always hard at work, ensuring that our camps were set up before we arrived and that everything was in order. The food was consistently delicious and hearty, and I was amazed at the variety they managed to prepare at such high altitudes. The tents were well-kept, and we felt truly cared for during the entire trek. Summiting Kilimanjaro was an emotional and triumphant moment, and I owe so much of that success to Sistus and the whole Safari Peak crew. Their professionalism, expertise, and genuine care made this once-in-a-lifetime adventure a reality. If you’re looking for an exceptional Kilimanjaro experience, I highly recommend Safari Peak. Ask for Sistus as your guide—you won’t regret it! Timing depends on which part of the herd you wish to see. Generally, the herds are in the Southern Serengeti for calving (January–March) and reach the Northern Serengeti for the dramatic Mara River crossings (July–October).
